Two minute tête-a-tête: Briana Pegado
Briana Pegado is the Executive Director of Creative Edinburgh, an organisation that unites creative thinkers across the city through events, career support, advocacy, to bring together and help grow the city's creative community providing a space for creation, collaboration and connection.
She is also Founder of the Edinburgh Student Arts Festival, an award-winning enterprise that provides a platform for emerging artists in Scotland and a cofounder of Povo, a process-led consultancy and collective that engages people with the creative process through research and experimentation.
I am so excited to have Briana with us as one of our 2019/20 mentors in The Collective. She believes in working with creative people and entrepreneurs to build sustainable livelihoods for themselves that enable them to maintain their wellness while they work with purpose.
I caught up with Briana for a quick 2 min chat ahead of The Collective class of 2020 class starting in 2 weeks time..
What time did you get up?
7:00am to hop to Creative Mornings Edinburgh where I am the speaker coach once a month. I have been volunteering with the Creative Mornings team for 2 years and 2 months now, but given the new role I've taken on, it's time to give voluntary responsibilities a rest so I can focus on my 9 to 5. I have been a freelancer for nearly half a decade, so it's quite an adjustment but the team at Creative Edinburgh is incredible. I feel like I am finally doing what I am supposed to be doing. So that means switching from one creative community to another that very much overlaps!
First thing you did this morning?
Reached for my phone (unfortunately) to check my horoscope and check into what is happening more widely in astrologically. Spirit Daughter, Mystic Mamma, Jessica Lanyadoo, and Chani Nicholas are the most intersectional, political, grounded and tuned in mystics out there. They always guide my morning.
Where are you right now?
I'm in Edinburgh sitting in my studio on the Creative Floor at Codebase getting ready for a funky Creative Informatics laboratory event.
Tune of the moment?
An oldie but definitely sums up my current mood, Song for the Fields by Fields.
Whose account do you head to if you're looking for a boost?
What are you going to do now?
Chat to a room full of creative people running creative businesses doing whacky things with technology.
What's your idea of a perfect Sunday?
Waking up late, wandering to Stockbridge market after a flowy and soothing yoga class, wandering along the Water of Leith, and settling into to a wine bar or café with a lovely tea or glass of wine.
